For our September library open house times, I invite you to not only come and see the many resources we have available on a variety of topics, but I also invite you to come and have a look at the many resources available to support your own learning and opportunities to share resources with colleagues, families and children as the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation approaches.
As we continue to learn about the history of residential schools in Canada, along with hearing different stories shared by Indigenous People, we have the opportunity (and even the responsibility) to participate in Truth and Reconciliation actions.
What this looks like can vary from person to person. I am inviting you to not only to make a commitment to learning how you can learn more about Truth and Reconciliation and the actions you can take, but to also see how the resources in our ELQI and Travelling Tales libraries can be used to support this.
One of the many great resources ELQI has, is a number of incredible resources available to us from the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund as we are a registered Legacy School. During the September Library Open House times, I will be highlighting the materials we have available to us as a registered Legacy School.
During the September library open house times, you will be able to:
- explore the Legacy School resources we have available
- share your commitment to ReconciliACTION
- share how ELQI can support your learning Truth and Reconciliation
- reflect on some questions from the Legacy School resources
- explore additional resources to support your learning about residential schools and Indigenous history
When you stop by one of the library open house times in September and share any of your thoughts in our ReconciliACTION notebook, you will receive a little something as a thank you (these little gifts are also from our Legacy School kit and are available while supplies last).
Come out any of these library open house times:
- Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm
- Friday, September 15, 2023 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
- Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
If you’re wanting to participate in sharing your thoughts in our ReconciliACTION notebook but unable to attend at these times, please send me a message to set a time in September that works for you.
When visiting the library open house at the Lindsay office of CLTH (205 McLaughlin Road, Lindsay), please keep in mind there is a scent allergy to all citrus and cinnamon. Please do not bring anything (food, drinks, gum, candy, etc.) with you that have cinnamon or citrus and please avoid using any products (such as scented hand sanitizer, lotions, essential oils, etc.) with these scents.
