Today, for this National Day of Action, The Early Learning Quality Initiative has focused on amplifying our voice locally. This includes a bulletin board at our office sharing resources from the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario (AECEO), collecting feedback from educators and staff within our local community, putting together a document to highlight data from our Data Analysis Coordinator and meeting with Laurie Scott, MPP.
I had an opportunity to speak with MPP Laurie Scott this afternoon to share information from the two documents (found below) that has information relevant to our local early learning and child care community. I can say, I believe this was a positive meeting. Did I receive any promises of additional funding and/or spaces for our community – no, I did not. However, she took the time to listen to the information I shared with her about our community. I did go through the data document with her and shared both the data and stories document with her so she could have a look at them when she has more time.
I can say, I do feel MPP Laurie Scott now has a bit more of an understanding of the specifics within our community when we are looking at challenges with staffing, feeling undervalued and not respected and the need for more spaces. She also acknowledged that all educators and staff had a lot asked of them and were expected to turn things around quickly throughout the pandemic and thanks everyone for their continued work. I would like to extend my gratitude to MPP Laurie Scott and her staff for taking the time to meet with me today so I could share information about our early learning and child care community in the City of Kawartha Lakes and County of Haliburton.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their story and feedback so it could be included in the information shared with MPP Laurie Scott today. Thank you to each and every one of you for continuing to show up and do incredible work; our community appreciates all that you do!
Our advocacy does not end here today. We will continue to unite our voices, share our stories and reach out to anyone willing to listen. Together we can make a difference.
