Seven Types of Rest

I love to search through TED Talks and you never know where the journey will take you. Recently I came across one by Saundra Dalton-Smith MD. She is a physician, researcher and the author of the book “Sacred Rest: Recover Your Life, Renew Your Energy, Restore Your Sanity. ” She discusses the seven types of rest we need to feel happy, productive and fulfilled. She discovered these gaps when diagnosing common ailments in her patients and helping them get the rest they needed often restored their health.

7 Types of Rest

1. Physical Rest: Rest of the body through sleep.

2. Mental Rest: Rest of the mind, taking a mental break.

3. Sensory Rest: Rest from noises, smell, screen time, etc.

4. Creative Rest: Taking a break from creative thinking.

5. Emotional Rest: Taking time to talk about your feelings.

6. Social Rest: Taking time away from people or spending time with restorative people.

7. Spiritual Rest: Taking time to tune into spiritual needs.
