Have you been struggling with introducing inclusive or diverse children’s books into your programs? We have just what you are looking for in our Travelling Tales Library, we guarantee it! At Travelling Tales Library, brought to you by our Early Learning Resource team at Community Living Trent Highlands, we have over 600 beautiful children’s books that celebrate all children, cultures, and families. The library values each child’s rights to be able to see themselves and others represented in a positive light through literature.
In the Travelling Tales library there are hundreds of books that touch on a wide range of diverse topics. Some of the topics you can find in our library include, but are not limited to: Gender Identity, Families, Bullying, Friendship, Indigenous/First Nations, Culture, Poverty, Art, Racism, Activism, Grief and much more. We encourage you all to come out for a visit and see the extensive library for yourself!
To get started, if you are not a member of our free Library yet – reach out to us at Librarika: Travelling Tales. With the emails provided we will be able to add you to the free Librarika service which is where you will be able to browse our catalog of books and request them. Once you request the books, you can either pick them up at our office (205 McLaughlin Road Suite 200, Lindsay Ontario K9V 0K7) or the Early Learning Coordinator you are connected to can bring them to program at their next visit. Once you have the books in your program slow down and take time to sit and read with the children. What are they noticing? Do they bring up conversations or questions? Be open to the conversations that these diverse books could bring. Our Early Learning team is available to support you with navigating these conversations as well as provide resources around the books if you want to explore them further.
We look forward to seeing and hearing about all the wonderful inquiries these books will bring in your programs!
